PMA Agile

Agency: Bill & Melinda Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, USA.

Team: Dr. P.R. Sodani, Anupam Mehrotra, Manoj Kumar Soni, Ashish Bandhu, Punit Soni, Ajay Sharma, Rajeev Singh Dhakad, Henanee Anand

Indian Institute of Health Management Research (IIHMR) University, Jaipur, in collaboration with the Bill and Melinda Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health at Johns Hopkins University (JHU) Bloomberg School of Public Health, Baltimore, USA, is implementing a project entitled “Performance Monitoring and Accountability (PMA) Agile” in India. The PMA Agile project builds off the PMA 2020 data collection structure and capacity to monitor two large-scale investments of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to improve marginalized urban populations’ access to contraceptive services.

The project plans to implement a continuous health facility and client-level data collection system to measure performance indicators for two large-scale investments of BMGF - the DKT International (DKT) and The Challenge Initiative (TCI) - to improve marginalized urban populations’ access to contraceptive services. The project aims to incorporate these data, as well as extant published data or HMIS data, into an indicators dashboard that will display trends in the key indicators in real-time.

Initially, the PMA Agile will be implemented in three States – Uttar Pradesh (Firozabad), Madhya Pradesh (Indore) and Odisha (Puri). A Project Management Unit (PMU) has been set-up at IIHMR Jaipur to implement the PMA Agile. The respective State Project Offices are being established in each selected city for implementing and monitoring data collection work on real-time. The overall direction of PMA Agile is being provided by the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, USA.

The PMA Agile project uses innovative mobile technology to gather real-time data on family planning and related services through female Resident Enumerators (REs). The data collection teams had undergone intensive training by JHU and IIHMR project management teams for carrying out the study in the respective cities.
